About Us

Scallywags Pre-School is a self-supporting local group with charitable status, We are registered with OFSTED who lay down certain regulations for all pre-schools, Our group belongs to the Pre-School Learning Alliance, and arents are welcome to attend meetings at the local branch. Scal1ywags Pre School is inspected by OFSTED, and children are funded by the existing Government scheme from the term after the one in which they turn three years old. We also have close links with Feniton C of E Primary School and one of our objectives is to make the transfer from pre-school to Reception class as smooth as possible for the children.

Times & Costs

Children usually start in the quieter afternoon sessions held on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 12,50 to 3.20 pm. Children can begin pre-school at the beginning of the term in which they turn three years old or alternatively you may wish to wait until your child reaches their third birthday (dependant on spaces being available). Children usually move to morning sessions after approximately a term and a half. We have also introduced a Friday afternoon session which runs from 12.55 to 3.25 pm and has similar content to the morning sessions. Morning sessions are held from 9.00 am to 11.55 pm Monday to Friday. We hold a 'Rising 5s' session on Wednesday afternoons from 12.55 to 3.25 pm for 4 year olds (to prepare these children for school) but all sessions are open to all children. Children attending Monday, Wednesday or Friday afternoon sessions may bring a packed lunch and combine the morning and afternoon sessions to stay all day.

At the AGM in October a committee is elected to be responsible for the policies and management of the group, along with the necessary fund-raising, All parents are invited to help in whatever way they are able. The group is located in a purpose built building adjoining Feniton C of E Primary School, and has its own secure outside play area. Scallywags Pre-School aims to provide three to five year aids with a wide range of educational and fun activities in a safe, secure and friendly environment. Our Acting Playleader Sharron Palfrey is helped by the pre-schoo! assistants who all hold, or who are working towards, a recognised childcare qualification. Parents and carers are invited to help on a rota basis once per half term once their child moves to the morning sessions.
