Background

Beehives started as Salcombe nursery in 1984 and was run from the old infant school in Courtenay St. It was later taken on by a group of parents who used the rugby club hall until our permanent home of the young centre was secured in 1986, the name was changed to Beehives and the rest is history!

Beehive Under Five's is a pre-school group children aged 2 - 5 years, dedicated to providing your child with the best possible early learning experience and making it fun! Our aim is to help every child to gain its first taste of independence and social awareness in a happy, caring and stimulating environment. Every session is carefully planned to include as many areas of learning and experience as possible. Beehives Under Five's is run by paid staff for the benefit of parents and children. Parents/carers are made very welcome at Beehives and their suggestions and support are very valuable to the work we do, however they are not required to serve on any Committee but can participate actively in fund-raising activities, volunteer to help cover staff training and sickness if they wish to do so We sometimes have various appeals which are advertised in our news letters.. Beehives is recognised by the Inland Revenue as a Non-Profit Making Organisation.

mapLocation & Premises

Our sessions are held in the Young Salcombe Centre which is situated directly opposite Salcombe's largest car park. The Redfern Health Centre is only a few minutes' walk away. The building is a purpose built youth centre, with a large hall, small classroom for quiet activities, kitchen, toilet facilities and storage rooms. We are fortunate in having a securely fenced outside playground with an area of safety surface and a grassy area with vegetable plot. We are fortunate to access the lovely Batson Creek and often engage the children on nature trails.
